In 2003, the European Union (EU) enacted environmental legislation
restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic
materials starting July 1, 2006. This decision banned the use of Lead,
Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyl
flame retardent, and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether flame retardent.
